Monday...

Well, another Monday and another failed attempt at sticking to a reasonable eating plan, though I am not completely discouraged, just meandering off the path a bit and trying to find my way back to the straight and narrow way of eating healthy!

On another note -- I was actually REALLY productive this weekend. I rearranged both kids rooms and finally got all of the laundry put away. I do have about 3 more loads that I have just finished that need dealt with, but at least I got through the backlog!

Also, I was able to have a night out with some work friends on Friday night, something I haven't been able to do in .... well, never. I was also able to spend some time knitting and I almost have my next knitting project done. Don't get too excited or hold your breath for a finished product just yet. Just because I'm close to being done doesn't mean it will be finished in a timely manner -- you know the title of this blog :)

On to getting the little ones ready for bed. Until tomorrow!

It starts .....

Well, after being fat for most of my life, I have decided that this will be my year. I'm hoping that having some strangers read about my struggles with weight loss (and my use of crafting as a distraction for eating) will be more motivating.

I started today with a Slim-Fast for breakfast. Not sure why because those things aren't the most enjoyable, but its better than not eating which is my usual habit! I also went to the store last night and stocked up on frozen meals for lunch -- healthy ones -- and some other healthy snacks.

My biggest problem is sticking with it! I have such a hard time making it past a week with any diet/weight loss plan. Yes, I have a limited attention span which is why I usually have about 5 craft projects going at once and it takes me forever to complete them! Anyone have any ideas for making it past the first week?

Now I am not going to post weights (other than maybe pounds lost) here. As you can see from my picture, I am overweight -- actually I could probably be classified as obese. We will just leave it at that!

Follow my weight loss journey as well as my crafting accomplishments...

Monday, Monday

Ugh. Bit of a boring Monday today. Then again, I can't remember the last time I had an exciting Monday! Had a wonderful weekend with the family. Dekker got his first professional hair cut and he did so well! I can't believe he sat in the chair and was calm! He also got to go sled riding for the first time being that there was some snow at my parent's house. Emily and I stayed inside and watched through the windows as he and Daddy were outside playing. He had fun!

I was able to cut out two pair of longies -- one pair for Dekker and one pair for a gift. Being that they are cut and pinned, I might actually get to finish them this week. I also need to make a tag blanket to go with the pair of longies that are a gift. I will hopefully post pictures by the end of the week!

Here's to an uneventful rest of the day and more blogging this week!

New Year, new entry

Well, being that I haven't posted anything in the past few months or so, I thought I should start the new year off right and post a new blog entry!

First, our family was blessed to have a safe and happy holiday week, albeit hectic, but isn't that what holidays are for? Dekker has now turned 3. I can't believe it! He is such a little boy now! He and Emily are learning to play well together, although most times I feel more like a referee than I do a mom!

I am still working 2 jobs and not making any career progress, so again, I am looking in to going back to school. If going to school were a career, I think I could be a millionaire!

Now, on to crafting. I have had a little more time to do some crafting lately. I was able to make Emily a pair of knit longies (I will post pictures later) that actually fit her! I'm impressed with myself that I got them finished before she outgrew them! I am also working on perfecting a pattern for fleece longies. I haven't made too much progress on those yet, but I would like to work on them this weekend!

And finally -- I have to make a New Year's resolution being that its the new year and all... I resolve to BLOG MORE this year and actually make something out of my blog! We shall see how that goes!

I have become my mother...

Its official. I think I have become my mother. Atleast when it comes to sewing. I can remember growing up and having my mom make me clothes. I also remember many nights when she would stay up til the wee hours of the morning finishing said clothing. I never appreciated it then, until the night before we were to leave on vacation, I was up until 3am finishing a mei tai carrier for Emily. I used the scanditute pattern found at www dot scanditute dot blogspot dot com. I love the pattern!!! I have included pictures below to show the finished product. Emily seemed to like it too!

We had a wonderful vacation -- Family Week at Jumonville. This is our 3rd year going and has officially become a family tradition. The kids adjusted well to the change in sleeping patterns/accomidations, etc. Emily has started to cut teeth number 4, 5 and 6. I can't believe she is almost a year old! She only wants to do things that her brother is doing. And bless Dekker for being so patient. He gets frutstrated at times with her and lashes out a little, but for the most part he tolerates Emily quite well. He sometimes even gives her hugs and kisses without any prompting from Mom and Dad!

Where has the summer gone...

I just realized the other day that I haven't blogged in a while. I never was good at keeping a journal or anything like that! I can't believe it is the end of July already! The kids have had their check-ups (Dekker's 30 month and Emily's 9 month), we have made it through 1 family reunion, I have interviewed and not been chosen for 3 jobs (that's deflating for the ego!) and time just seems to be flying before my eyes! Emily is going to be a year in 6 weeks!!! So crazy!

We are getting ready for our annual trek to Jumonville family week. For those that don't know, Jumonville is a Christian camp and every year Family Week is offered. Since Andy and I had Dekker, we have been going. It is so much fun, but its also a lot of work. This year we will be packing for 4 people including clothing, bedding, etc. I have been trying to be smart this year and not put off packing until the night before (which is what I usually do, then realize everything I have forgotten!) I am also making lists of clothing, etc. for me and the kids. It has taken 32 years, but I might actually be getting a little more organized!

Now on to the crafting -- I haven't been able to sew much. I was able to finish my first side snapping diaper, which is a little big in Emily, but it should fit soon (pictures to follow). I did get a pair of snap pliers from a fellow cloth diapering mama on cafemom dot com. They are wonderful! I ordered my snaps from kamsnaps dot com and they are wonderful too! They have so many colors to choose from! I also used the downdilly daffodil knit diaper cover pattern and made a wool diaper cover for Em. I just need to add buttons and felt it then lanolize it and it will be ready to use!

Next up -- hopefully tomorrow night -- a mei tai carrier for our week at Jumonville. I have the material, I have the pattern, I just need to find the time to cut it out and sew my heart out! Well, back to packing and maybe (if I'm lucky) some fabric cutting!

Finished project #1 for the week

I finished Emily's soaker. I think I am hooked on the pattern! Katrina's free soaker pattern is awesome! It fits like a glove and Emily seems to like it! I think I am going to be hooked on making them from fleece!
